Have you ever hated somewhere so much that just thinking about having to go there makes you sick? A place that you have to go to, you can't avoid it. Your life would literally implode if you gave in and didn't go.
My place of horror is pretty much the same as everyone else. WORK.
I hate being there. The lack of common sense, the backwards rules, the management and all but one person working there.
For instance I got told off by the manager for washing my hands. I work with food!!!!! I had coughed quite violently and went to wash my hands as any decent person would do. Surely it would be against health and safety for me to cough all over my hands and then go and handle food? Apparently as I was not using the oven I was not allowed to wash my hands. Whaaaaaat? Without even looking at any set of rules I could tell you that you should wash you hands after handling raw foods, coughing, touching your face/hair, handling money or other none food items etc etc etc etc. No this isn't for them. In their little world you only wash your hands if you touch the oven......Oh dear god.
During that day I started to get quite ill and I ask my friend that I work with, if I asked the manager, would she mind swapping shifts so I could go home early. The bollocking I got from my manager after that was amazing. I should have talked to her first, OK I admit that. However she shouted at me and would not let me tell me side of events (which no matter what I had done wrong, I had a right to do) until I felt like I was two inches tell and completely stupid.
One of her points during this argument was that I should tell her if something is wrong and I am feeling ill. Is that not what I did? Were the words coming out of my mouth not "I'm feeling too ill to work"? What do I have to do? I could collapse on the floor dead and she would admonish me for not telling her sooner that I felt I was going to die.
It has not been just one day that has gone horribly wrong. There has been a mountain of issues with that place from day one.
In my first week I was asked if during my second week I was OK to pick up some extra hours to which I said yes. Sure, I had nothing to do next week and I needed the money (hell I still do otherwise i would be out of there!). Flash forward 9 months and not one week has gone by where I have done my contracted hours. For some reason they feel it is OK to veer from way less to incredible amounts more.
The assistant manager (the wicked witch of the west) seems to think it is OK to talk to me as if I am something that she has scrapped off the bottom of her shoe. Either that or ignore me.
They wonder why I am not merging well with the team!!! I wonder if its because i cant step foot in that place without being universally hated by them all and not being able to wash my hands??!!??!!??!!

I understand that there will at some point in every ones lives where they find something they hate. You can not like everyone all the time. You can't be like by everyone all the time. But where is the line? At what point does it become something that you need to change rather than something you just get on with?
